Meet Fr. Michael Picard, LC
Fr. Michael is originally from Lake Charles, Louisiana and was raised in a family of three boys. He developed a strong interest in architecture at a young age and aspired to have a big family. However, he ultimately felt a calling from God to help build His Kingdom and be a spiritual father to many.
In the year 2000, he answered this calling by entering the Legion of Christ. His journey began with two formative years as a Novice in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada. In 2011, he returned to the Novitiate in Cornwall as a newly ordained priest for another two years of spiritual growth. Throughout his formation, Fr. Michael dedicated numerous years to youth ministry, overseeing clubs and leading retreats and camps for young individuals.
In 2008, he made his perpetual profession in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, before heading to Rome, Italy to study Theology. During his time in Rome, he had the chance to meet numerous families who were travelling to the city and offered them tours, enabling them to discover the profound richness of the faith.
"As God called me to be His priest, I felt His calling to lead the youth to have a relationship with Jesus and help families grow stronger in their faith".
On December 12, 2011, Fr. Michael was ordained at the Basilica of St. John Lanterns in Rome, along with 50 other Legionaries. The following day, he celebrated his first Mass, which was a moving experience, particularly after communion. For Fr. Michael, there is no greater Joy than to bring Jesus to others, this is his priesthood.
For the past decade, Fr. Michael has served the community of Dallas, Texas as director of ECyD, an international Catholic youth organization affiliated with Regnum Christi. In September of this year, he started a new chapter in Calgary, Alberta, Canada where he joined the ECyD team and will be working in the Calgary area, as well as serving as an assistant Chaplain at Clear Water Academy. Additionally, he will be spending his time working with ECyD throughout Western Canada.
